In July 2007 Garrity Industries was honored to win the year's Silver SPARC award. Over 20 major Fortune 500 companies were on the ballot presented by the Retailing Today editors in the Hardware/DIY retail category . The honor was based on votes by 500 buyers, merchandise managers, and vice presidents in the retail industry. We are very proud of this achievement. It is one of the many that Garrity has been awarded in its forty year history as a leading supplier of portable lighting products.
In April 2006, Garrity Industries was acquired by Duracell®. This combination -- the power of the Trusted Everywhere battery and Garrity's products -- will continue to make Garrity an undisputed industry leader.
Garrity Industries was founded in 1967 as a privately held family business with a commitment to bringing innovative, quality lighting products to market.
In 1969, then Chairman and CEO Paul Garrity Sr. introduced the first disposable flashlight, the Life Lite®. Now the World's #1 Selling Disposable Flashlight, the Life Lite has a remarkable past. In 1984 President Reagan gave out Life Lites as Christmas gifts. In 1991 we supplied hundreds of thousands of Life Lites for Operation Desert Storm. In 1996 Life Lites were used during both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. On the evening of September 11, 2001, Kevin Garrity, President of Garrity Industries, handed out over 16,000 Life Lites to Fire and Rescue Workers at Ground Zero just hours after the attack on the World Trade Center. In 2005, Garrity supplied thousands of flashlights and batteries to those areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
